Progress update

Unfortunately I've hit some major set backs and lost a good week and a halfs worth of work due to my laptop breaking. These include my Animatic and most of my storyboard. At this point the most important thing to do is bring myself back to the stage I was at, and to re install the software I have lost.

Background concepts

These are my first concepts for the setting of my story. I've taken a lot of inspiration from 1950's flat 2D style. the purpose of this is to create a fun, characterised environment so that i might have less restrictions when animating. hopefully this way my world will more lively. I decided to use a softer colour pallet so that the environment is more appealing to the audiences eye.
I have yet to decide which environment to use out of the two. I may try and incorporate both using before and after shots.

Bulldozer Snail

Circus Cannon Snail

Viking Snails

Character Facial Expression Sheet

Character Design and Turnaround

this snail design is simple to make way for easier animation, but gives me enough to work with in terms of squash and stretch. I can achieve lots of exaggeration, especially with facial expressions. I've strayed away from generic earthy colours and instead gone for bright and bold ones to enhance the immaturity and innocence of the character.

Film Brief

Title:       A Certain Point Of View

As a snail embarks on a journey for a special food, when he comes across a large back door to a run down house.
Legends of a great, luxurious food are said to be kept here.
The door is blocking his destination.
No matter how hard he tries, the snail cant open it.
Realizing he cant go over or around it, he decides to make his own doorway through it.
He fashions a bulldozer out of a conker and a piece of of string and swings head first at the door.
The conker, however, breaks and he falls crashing to the ground.
He then tries to propel himself forward using a toy circus cannon.
He sits in the barrel and waits for the shot.
However he gets stuck inside the cannon, and the full force of it fire enshrouds the snail.
Left in an ash covered mess, he rethinks his options.
Thinking explosions will definitely work however, he lays down a firecracker at the base of the door.
Edging closer with a match gripped in his mouth, the snail lights the small firework.
But being a snail is too slow to avoid the blast and is sent flying.
Having exhausted all other options, the snail gathers a small snail army.
At the head of the crowd, the snail lets out a war cry and charges the door.
They dramatically charge forward in a blaze of speed and dust.
As the camera zooms out the audience realizes the snails are of course moving really slowly and the film ends with the trailer title.
